Portugal Hosts the 54th Annual Meeting

of the European Section of ICD in

Lisbon,  25th-27th  June 2009

The European Section hosted the 2009 Annual Meeting in Lisboa, Portugal under the Presidency of Dr. Antonio Tavares, former Regent for Portugal.  Dr. Tavares became President at the 53rd Annual Meeting Annual Meeting in Athens in June 2008.

Many FICDs remember well the 1992 Meeting, held in Villamoura in the Algarve, when Dr. Gil Alcoforado (Senior) was President - the last Meeting to be held in Portugal and some even attended both meetings.

We visited the most charming Portuguese villages completely enclosed within the ramparts of the medieval castle.  The tour continued with a visit to Nazare, the most famous fishing town in Portugal. A superb view was enjoyed from the top of the hill while in the streets women were seen still wearing the traditional 7-skirted costumes.

Lunch was served at a local restaurant. The tour ended at Fatima the well-known Roman Catholic Marian shrine and the basilica and the chapel of apparitions that marks the spot where the 3 shepherd children had the visions in 1917.
