Scientific Meeting, Dublin 2003

Changes and Challenges in Patient Treatment in the New Millennium

Dr. Stephen Flint, Consultant in Oral Medicine, Dublin Dental Hospital Trinity College, Dublin, delivered a paper to the Dublin meeting entitled: Extra-oral Diagnosis. A Forgotten Art. Starting with the premise that dental disease has been artificially separated from the field of medicine while many systemic diseases with oral manifestations make no such division, Dr. Flint demonstrates how a thorough extra-oral examination can help the dental surgeon to predict what will be found in the patient's oral cavity.

Dr. Flint, MA, PhD, MBBS(Hons), BDS(Lond), FDSRCS(Eng), FFDRCSI, FICD, has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers in the area of oral medicine and oral cancer, Sjogren's syndrome, oral manifestations of systemic diseases and DNA molecular biology. He has contributed to 10 textbooks and chapters in books, and his Atlas of Stomatology, now in its third edition and translated into 5 languages, won several medical publishing awards.
