Foundation Activities

The Foundation approved two new fundings at the recent Board of Regents Meeting;

1. The Israeli IADR Division in collaboration with the ICD European Section will grant a stipend of 600 Euro each year to an outstanding young dental researcher for attending an IADR. international conference and presenting his/her research findings.

2. Under the direction of FICD Dr. Hani Farr sponsored funding for equipment and supplies to a charity mission in the Dominican Republic in support of the work of NPH (Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos -er theish for “Our Little Siblings”). which has been caring for orphaned and abandoned children in Latin America and the Caribbean since 1954.

Third International Meeting Academy of Medical Sciences Odessa, Ukraine,   September 2007

European Section participates for the third year at the International Meeting in Odessa, Ukraine, September 2007.  

In accordance with the Agreement of Mutual Understanding between the Academy of Medical Sciences, Institute of Stomatology, in Odessa, Ukraine, (AMSO) and the European Section of ICD, two speakers were again sponsored through the Philip Dear Foundation of the European Section of ICD,  to travel and to address the Third International Meeting in Odessa in September 2007, namely Dr Jan van Hoeve, a periodontist from The Netherlands (and Treasurer of the European Section) and Dr. Lisa Papagiannoulis, a consultant paedodontist from Athens, Greece and currently president of the International Association of Paediatric Dentists.  Full report here later.

Future European Section Work in Odessa

In addition, Dr Sabine Maréchaux, a retired Swiss Fellow, is giving of her time voluntarily to teach in Odessa, with special reference to paediatric periodontics. Dr. Maréchaux virtually created the Paedodontic clinic at the University of Geneva. and has wide experience in teaching under-graduate and post-graduate students how to treat children.  Her work has been reported in the 2009 ICDIGEST.

Second International Meeting, Academy of Medical Sciences Odessa, Ukraine, September 2006

The two speakers sponsored by the European Section for the 2006 meeting were:

  • Professor Mossey is professor of Craniofacial Development and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, University of Dundee and Honorary Consultant in Orthodontics, Tayside University Hospitals Trust.  He is also Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborative Center for public health issues on congenital anomalies and technology transfer.
  • Professor Maria Nassika, from Athens, Greece, also addressed the meeting and was sponsored by the European Section. Her lecture was entitled: "Orthodontics as a member of the Cleft Interdisciplinary team”.
