Benelux District Meeting

On November 11th the Benelux District has held his regional meeting. Before the meeting 9 Fellows had visited the so called Vincentre in Nuenen, The Netherlands. This is a centre where you can learn all about the life and work of Vincent van Gogh (30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890), the famous Dutch post impressionist painter. He was hardly appreciated during his lifetime, his fame grew in the years after his death. Today, he is widely regarded as one of history's greatest painters and an important contributor to the foundations of modern art. Van Gogh produced more than 2,000 artworks, consisting of around 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings and sketches in a relatively short period of time. He just started painting in his late twenties. In 1885 he painted his first major work The Potato Eaters. During his life, only one painting was sold for a few Francs.

The meeting in Eindhoven in the Academic Society Eindhoven was attended by 20 Fellows. Immediate Past President Frans Kroon summarized the 55th Anniversary Congress held last June in Maastricht. He reported the positive feedback from the Fellows abroad. The theme like approach of the Scientific Program and the related Open Forum discussion were well appreciated.

The newly inducted Fellow Frans de Beer, dentist-maxillofacial prosthodontist gave a presentation on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in planning implantology in edentulous maxillae and mandibulae. He showed an innovative service to the dentist. Together with Hans de Vries, dentist-implantologist and Ward Schoon, dental technician they set up the company Implasure. This is an advisory who helps dentists with implementing implantology in their own dental practices. It supports with indication and manufacturing of implants and suprastructures, the fabrication of CT- scans, analyzing them and planning with software. They also fabricate surgical guides with 3-D techniques. An opportunity to serve pur sang!

During the meeting two potential Inductees from the Benelux for the forthcoming 56th Anniversay in Vienna in 2011 were introduced.

After the meeting the Regent invited all the Fellows for a nice dinner in the Society Building.
