Greece and Cyprus Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the Region of Greece and Cyprus was held in the premises of the restored building “Kostis Palamas” which houses the faculty club of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Thirty six fellows from Greece and Cyprus were present –a record high-along with their spouses and enjoyed a beautiful evening of fellowship and friendship.
After welcoming cocktails, the evening started with a short address by the Regent of Greece and Cyprus, Dr. Argirios Pissiotis, who congratulated the evening’s Honored Guest, the newly appointed Life Member of the Region, Dr. Mina Papasotiriou, who was the first Greek Dentist inducted as Fellow of the ICD, and one of the first women Fellows of the ICD-European Section. He then introduced the fellows inducted in June to the rest of the party and gave some up to date information about the College’s recent activities and the upcoming Meeting in Lisbon next June. Our first Guest lecturer for the evening, Fellow Professor Ioannis Vrotsos was next to the podium and gave an excellent 15 minute presentation entitled “The need for communication between European and American Dentists and the founding of the International College of Dentists in the early 20th century”.
Following Professor Vrotsos, the honored new Life Member of the ICD, Dr. Mina Papasotiriou in a really touching and passionate slide presentation, shared with rest of the group, her personal experience in the ICD, which actually accounted the history of the Region of Greece and Cyprus. Everyone in the room was overwhelmed with her story-telling, giving her a generous applause, the older Fellows and Life Members remembering and the recent ones learning.
The evening entertainment included a delicious four course dinner served in the private function hall of the “Kostis Palamas” Mansion, leaving everyone present with the aftertaste of a warm and exciting evening with their ICD Fellows. |
